Children of the Pope are a six-piece religious group from South America and Europe currently based in South London. They are led by the failed pornographic actor Joao Oliveira (vocals, guitar, CBD oil). Acclaimed drummer Fells ‘4.97 Uber Rating’ Guevara adds class to a lineup that also features the petty criminal Deniz (keyboards, spare change), Sunday school teacher Lizzy (bass, albatross), full-time Pro Callum (guitar, heavy breathing) and Karolina (occasional vocals).
Since forming in early 2019 as a front for smuggling tropical fish from Brazil to the UK, the Children of the Pope have made a modest impact on the South London music scene. Their shows at the Windmill and Easycome, often with fellow underachievers the Honkies, are attended by secular and religious audiences. Their debut single, The Chinese Man, was released on Papa Francisco records and charted at number 27,486 in the Vatican’s mid-week alternative spiritual chart.
